THE SPIRITED SPROUT'S BLACKBERRY BRAMBLE
Brambles are one of those cocktails like a gin + tonic that can be twisted into whatever you prefer, or in my case, whatever you have on hand when you start craving bourbon and need something lighter than an old fashioned.
The first bramble I remember was syrupy, overloaded with blackberry syrup and honey. Some people love those type of cocktails, but if I’m making a bramble at home, I’m making a few swaps to make this classic an easy-to-sip summer favorite.
2.5 ounces bourbon or rye
0.25 ounces raw honey
Handful of mint leaves
Handful of fresh blackberries
Juice of half a lemon (+ the other half for garnish)
Step 1: Rinse your lemon, blackberries and mint.
Step 2: Add mint leaves, blackberries and lemon juice to your cocktail shaker and muddle.
Step 3: Add honey and bourbon and shake. Note: If your honey has started to solidify, just stir instead of shake, making sure to mix the honey in well.
Step 4: Strain into a glass filled with ice. The blackberries will make this cocktail pretty "sludgy", so you may have to give it a couple of turns.
Step 5: Top with ginger beer and enjoy!
Step 6: Share your hand crafted cocktail on Instagram! Don't forget to tag me (@thespiritedsprout) so I can repost your drink!
